US, China agree to cooperate on HFC phasedown

The Chinese and US governments have agreed to cooperate in the phasedown of hydrofluorocarbons (HFC), under the 1987 Montreal Protocol, in an effort to combat climate change, the White House says in a statement. President Barack Obama and China's president, Xi Jinping, will work together and with other countries, to use the expertise and institutions of the Montreal Protocol to phasedown the consumption and production of HFCs. A global phasedown of HFCs could potentially reduce about 90 gigatons of carbon dioxide equivalent by 2050, equal to roughly 2 years'...
