Total gets green light for coal-to-olefins JV in China

Total says it has received the go-ahead from the Chinese authorities to proceed with a coal-to-olefins joint venture with China Power Investment Corp. (CPI; Beijing) in the autonomous region of Inner Mongolia, China. The project will cost about $4 billion, according to various media reports. Total signed a framework agreement for the project with CPI in 2011, as reported by CW.  The plant, expected to be built at Ordos, Inner Mongolia, is likely to produce 800,000 m.t./year of polyolefins, the reports add.
