World News and Views :: Top of the News Sunoco to Close Marcus Hook Ethylene Unit1:39 PM MDT | July 6, 2009 | Lindsey Bewley Sunoco says it will permanently shut its ethylene complex at its 178,000-bpd Marcus Hook, PA refinery due to weak demand for ethylene and ethylene derivatives. Operations at the ethylene complex have been suspended since May 17, when a fire broke out in the unit, Sunoco says. “Sunoco will permanently shut down production at the ethylene complex due to insufficient demand for ethylene, ethylene oxide, and cyclohexane, which does not justify repairing or replacing equipment damaged in the recent fire," says Thomas Golembeski, spokesman for Sunoco.
