SunEdison polysilicon plant in Italy to stay off-line indefinitely, TCS plant also to close

Semiconductor and solar technology firm SunEdison (St. Peters, MO) says its polysilicon manufacturing facility at Merano, Italy, will remain closed indefinitely. The decision affects about 200 employees and concludes a process that began with a worldwide restructuring plan that was announced by SunEdison in 2011 in response to challenging conditions in the markets for raw materials that supply semiconductor-device and solar-cell manufacturers.
