Sulfuric Acid Barge Sinks in the Rhine; Shipping Disrupted

A section of the Rhine River remains closed in Germany after a barge carrying sulfuric acid sank yesterday. Shipping on the river is likely to be disrupted until at least January 17, sources say. The vessel sank in strong currents caused by melting snow. However, the local authorities do not know the exact cause of the accident because water levels are very high and the vessel is unlikely to have run aground.
