Stepan Buys Methyl Esters Asset in Singapore; Will Install Fractionation Facility

Stepan Co. (Northfield, IL) says it has acquired Peter Cremer's methyl ester plant on Jurong Island, Singapore. The unit has capacity for 100,000 m.t./year. Stepan plans to install a methyl ester fractionation facility at the site to supply customers and its internal surfactant needs globally with fractionated methyl esters and derviatives made from tropical oils produced in the region, says  F. Quinn Stepan Jr., president and CEO of Stepan Co. Stepan intends to restart production at the Jurong Island plant by the end of 2011 after adding the fractionation...
