Sibur hikes capacity at polyester subsidiary Polief

Sibur is expanding capacity at its Polief polyester subsidiary at Ufa, Bashkortostan, Russia. Sibur holds a majority stake in Polief with the government of Bashkortostan holding 17.5%. The complex is currently designed to produce 250,000 m.t./year of terephthalic acid  and 140,000 m.t./year of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle resin and the expansion will raise PET capacity to 250,000 m.t./year.   This project will allow Polief to process its own terephthalic acid into PET and to replace imports in some Russian PET market segments.
