World News and Views :: Top of the News Siam Cement Reports Rise in Profits5:30 AM MST | January 28, 2010 | Deepti Ramesh SCG Chemicals, the chemical subsidiary of Siam Cement Group (SCG; Bangkok) reported a 105% increase in net profits for full-year 2009, to baht13 billion ($394 million), compared to 2008. Sales for 2009 decreased by 26%, to baht101 billion, mainly due to lower product prices. Fourth-quarter figures were not disclosed. SCG recorded a 45% rise in net profits, to about baht24 billion for full-year 2009, compared with 2008, mainly due to improved performance of SCG Chemicals, SCG Paper and SCG Building Materials businesses.
