World News and Views :: Top of the News Showa Denko’s Chemicals and Petrochemicals Segments Report Falls in Profits and Sales5:48 AM MDT | April 27, 2012 | Deepti Ramesh Showa Denko reported a more than doubling in net profits in the first quarter ended March 31, 2012, compared with the year-ago period, to ¥5.33 billion ($66 million). Net profits in the year-ago quarter were impacted by the extraordinary losses due to the earthquake that struck Japan in March 2011, Showa Denko says. Sales for the first quarter of 2012 decreased 6%, to ¥181.3 billion. Showa Denko’s petrochemicals segment recorded a 20% fall in first-quarter sales, to ¥47 billon, compared with the year-ago period.
