Shin-Etsu reports rise in profits, sales

Shin-Etsu Chemical reported a 9.1% rise in net profits for the fiscal first half, ended 30 September 2012, compared with the year-ago period, to ¥55.7 billion ($695 million). Sales increased 3%, to ¥536.9 billion. In the fiscal first half, there was a slowdown in the growth of the Chinese economy and the trend towards economic recovery in the United States lacked strength because of delays in improvement in areas such as employment and the housing market, Shin-Etsu says.
