World News and Views :: Top of the News Shin-Etsu and Tosoh Assess Earthquake Damage to Production Sites7:06 AM MDT | March 17, 2011 | Ian Young Shin-Etsu Chemical says it is unable to predict when its polyvinyl chloride (PVC) complex at Kashima, Japan will resume operations due to damage to infrastructure and utilities caused by the powerful earthquake and tsunami that struck northeastern Japan on March 11. Shin-Etsu's Kashima plant is the biggest PVC unit in Japan with capacity for 550,000 m.t./year. "We are continuing inspections of the production facilities and equipment, and some damage has been found," Shin-Etsu says. "The Kashima plant is located in the Kashima industrial complex...
