Shanghai launches carbon trading platform

The Chinese government says that Shanghai, on 26 November, has launched a carbon emission trading market. Currently, about 191 companies from industries such as chemicals, iron and steel, and aviation have been included in the scheme. Under the trading program, companies that pollute more will be able to buy unused quotas on the market from companies that pollute less. The quotas for the period 2013 to 2015, have been allotted to the companies, the government says. Shenzhen was the first city in China to launch a carbon trading scheme, when it launched the scheme...
