World News and Views :: Top of the News Senate Bill Would Reauthorize Plant Security Standards2:46 PM MST | March 4, 2011 | Kara Sissell Senator Susan Collins (R., ME) introduced on March 3 a bill to extend the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) until October 2015. The Collins CFATS reauthorization bill would not alter the standards by requiring consideration of Inherently Safer Technologies (IST), a process that would have been required by a bill that cleared the House in late 2009. However, that bill did not clear the full Congress. Senators Mark Pryor (D., AR), Rob Portman (R., OH) and Mary Landrieu (D., LA) cosponored the bill. Collins referenced Socma’s testimony...
