World News and Views :: Top of the News Sasol's Chemicals Business Posts Higher Profits and Sales12:40 PM MDT | March 12, 2012 | Ian Young Sasol says its chemicals business generated a 26% increase in operating profits in the six months ended December 31, 2011 compared with the year-earlier period, to R4.3 billion ($578 million) on sales up 19%, to R47.2 billion. Operating profits at the Sasol Polymers subsidiary declined 5% year on year, to R546 million due partly to a 6% decrease in production volumes in South Africa, as well as higher feedstock costs and lower international polymer prices.
