World News and Views :: Top of the News Safety Board Begins Study of Bayer MIC Plant at WV9:55 AM MDT | September 3, 2010 | Kara Sissell The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB; Washington) says it has begun its study with the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) on the feasibility of reducing methyl isocyanate (MIC) at Bayer CropScience’s facility at Institute, WV. The 12-month, $575,000 study was mandated by Congress in late 2009 in response to an August, 2008 explosion and fire at Institute that killed two employees. The final study agreement between CSB and NAS “reflects the views and opinions of community, labor, environmental, and business leaders,” says...
