Retailers Respond to Push for PVC-free Toys

Major retailers including Wal-Mart and Target have advanced plans to stop selling certain toys that contain polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in response to concerns from some advocacy groups about possible children’s exposure to lead, phthalates, and other substances, according to a report published yesterday in the Wall Street Journal. Mattel says that PVC poses no known health risk, but that it is looking into the use of alternative plastics, according to the report. Wal-Mart has pledged to phase out PVC in baby bibs and other children’s products. Target...
