Researchers Make Dye-based Solar Cell Breakthrough

A team of researchers from the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry (Changchun, China) and Central South University (Changsha, China) say they have developed a technology based on the use of solar dyes which is able to convert 10.3% of sunlight into electricity. Unlike other solar dyes the technology avoids the use of ruthenium, an element that is becoming scarce. The researchers’ latest findings were published earlier this year in the online edition of Chemistry of Materials. Dye-based cells: Things are looking up for ruthenium- free technology.  ...
