OSHA Fines BP $50.6 Million for Violations Related to Fatal 2005 Accident

U.S. worker safety officials say BP Products North America has agreed to pay a record $50.6 million fine for “failure to abate” violations the officials had identified at the company’s BP Texas City site, where 15 workers died in a 2005 accident. A 2009 follow-up investigation identified violations and set a timetable for corrective action. “Although the company made many changes related to safety, it failed to live up to several extremely important terms of that agreement,” OSHA says BP also has agreed to allocate a minimum of $500...
