OCI swings to loss; forms carbon black JV in China

OCI (Seoul), formerly DC Chemical, reports a net loss of 186.6 billion South Korean won ($167 million) in the second quarter ended 30 June, compared with a net profit of about won71 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year. Second-quarter sales decreased 17.4%, to won715.7 billion. Operating profits decreased 80.5%, to won17.7 billion. The company’s polysilicon business recorded second-quarter sales of won154.4 billion and an operating loss of won29.4 billion, compared with sales of won246.8 billion and an operating profit of won4.2 billion...
