Police reportedly have made six arrests, and detained a further 41 individuals. The melamine, although toxic when consumed, makes it appear in tests that the milk contains high levels of protein. The case mirrors the events of 2008 when more than 1,500 m.t. of melamine-laced formula was introduced into the market in China, causing the death of at least six children and illness in another 300,000.
