World News and Views :: Top of the News Monsanto to Buy Seed Firm for $863 Million1:51 PM MDT | April 1, 2008 | Michelle Bryner Monsanto says it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire De Ruiter Seeds Group (Bergschenhoek, the Netherlands), a provider of protected-culture vegetable seeds, for €546 million ($863 million) including debt. The deal is expected to be accretive to earnings in the second fiscal year following its completion, Monsanto says. The acquisition will expand Monsanto's fruit and vegetable seed business by adding products for the protected-culture market, the company says.
