Mitsui Expands Hydroquinone Capacity in Japan

Mitsui Chemicals says it will increase the production capacity for hydroquinone by 1,000 m.t./year to 12,500 m.t./year at the company’s site at Iwakuni, Japan. The expansion is expected to be completed by June 2013. The demand for hydroquinone, which is mainly used as polymerization inhibitors, anti-oxidant ingredients for rubbers, and as pigments, has increased significantly worldwide and particularly in Asia in line with the growing demand for acrylic acid, methyl methacrylate, and acrylonitrile in which it is used as a polymerization inhibitor, Mitsui...
