Massive Earthquake Disrupts Petrochemical Production in Japan

Petrochemical production in Japan has been severely disrupted by the massive earthquake that struck the northeast coast of the country earlier today. The deadly quake measured 8.9 on the Richter scale and is the strongest to hit Japan in a century. It was followed by a tsunami up to 10 meters high. Many petrochemical producers have taken plants offstream as a precautionary measure or because of earthquake-related damage, sources say. Meanwhile, all ports in Japan have been closed.
