Making Fishing Rods from Carrot Waste

Start up company Cellucomp (Burntisland, U.K.) has developed a composite additive material made from carrot waste that can be used as an alternative to glass fiber reinforced plastics and carbon fiber reinforced plastics in certain applications. Nanoscale fibers from the waste carrot material provide strength, stiffness and toughness as well as a smooth finish that compares well with high specification carbon fiber, but from a sustainable source, the company says.
