Lawmakers Ask FDA to Reconsider BPA; Seek Documents Linked to Industry PR Effort

Representatives Henry Waxman (D., CA) and Bart Stupak (D., MI) sent a letter yesterday to FDA commissioner Margaret Hamburg, asking that the FDA reconsider its assessment of bisphenol A (BPA), which it has determined is safe for use in food packaging and beverage containers. The lawmakers  also wrote North American Metal Packaging Association chief John Rost seeking documents linked to recent public relations meetings, reportedly being developed by a group known as the BPA Joint Trade Association, aimed at countering efforts to regulate BPA.
