LG Chem to Invest $455 Million to Build Polysilicon Plant

LG Chem says it will invest won491 billion ($455 million) to build the company’s first polysilicon plant at Yeosu, Korea. Construction of the plant, which will have a production capacity of 5,000 m.t./year of polysilicon for solar cells, will begin next month, and it is expected to be completed by the end of 2013. The company’s board of directors approved plans for the project today, LG Chem says. LG Chem plans to enter the polysilicon market with its own technology, press reports say.
