World News and Views :: Top of the News Japanese-German joint venture expands special bisphenols capacity at Bitterfeld1:35 AM MDT | October 3, 2012 | Natasha Alperowicz Hi-Bis GmbH (Bitterfeld, Germany) has held a ground breaking ceremony for a €50 million ($64.4 million) project to expand capacity for special bisphenols at the Bitterfeld chemical park in Germany. Hi-Bis is a joint venture in which Honshu Chemical Industries holds 55%, Mitsui & Co. 35% and Bayer MaterialScience 10%. The jv will double capacity to 10,000 m.t./year by mid 2014. Output from the facility will be used by Bayer MaterialScience to expand capacity for its Apec special polycarbonate, which the company produces at Antwerp. Sales of the...
