Industry Agrees to Phaseout of Flame Retardant deca-BDE

Industry has agreed to a voluntary phaseout of the brominated flame retardant deca-brominated diphenyl ether (deca-BDE) by year-end 2012, a move welcomed by EPA. The agency had  been in the process of reviewing deca-BDE under the its previously announced chemical action plans. “Though deca-BDE has been used as a flame retardant for years, the U.S. EPA has long been concerned about its impact on human health and the environment,” says Steve Owens, EPA’s assistant administrator/Office of Prevention, Pesticides and Toxic Substances...
