Hexion to Idle Texas BPA Plant

Hexion Specialty Chemicals says it plans to idle indefinitely its 190 million lbs/year bisphenol a (BPA) plant at Deer Park, TX, due to continued soft demand for BPA. The unit will be idled as soon as a newer, larger BPA plant at the site, with capacity of 310 million lbs/year, is restarted after a maintenance turnaround. Hexion also operates a BPA plant at Pernis, the Netherlands, and says that between those two units it will be able to meet demand from merchant customers and for its internal requirements. BPA is a raw material used in producing epoxy resins...
