World News and Views :: Top of the News Hemlock to Invest $3 Billion in Polysilicon1:35 PM MST | December 15, 2008 | Rebecca Coons Hemlock Semiconductor (Hemlock, MI), Dow Corning's majority-owned joint venture with Shin Etsu Handotai (Tokyo) and Mitsubishi Materials (Tokyo), says it will invest up to $3 billion to boost polysilicon production. Plans include $1.2 billion to build a production plant at Clarksville, TN and $1 billion to expand capacity by up to 13,000 m.t./year at Hemlock, MI. The Clarksville site will have an initial capacity of 10,000 m.t. of polysilicon, with the ability to expand production to 21,000 m.t./year, Hemlock says.
