World News and Views :: Top of the News Georgia Tech Develops System for Recycling Precious Metal Catalysts11:09 AM MDT | November 1, 2010 | Alex Scott Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech; Atlanta), say they have developed a novel organic solvent system that significantly enhances the recyclability of precious metal catalysts including gold, palladium, platinum, and silver. The novel approach uses a combination of two chemicals; thionyl chloride; and a variety of organic reagents such as pyridine, N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), pyrimidine or imidazole.
