World News and Views :: Top of the News Exploration and Mining Firm Buys U.K. Potash Company, Eyes 'World-Class' Project6:42 AM MST | January 19, 2011 | Ian Young Sirius Minerals (London), a potash exploration and mining company, says it has acquired privately owned York Potash (York, U.K.) for £25 million. The deal gives Sirius access to about 600 sq kilometers of onshore and offshore mineral rights between the coastal towns of Scarborough and Whitby, U.K. The mineral rights relate primarily to potash, polyhalite, and rock salt. The area hosts the U.K.'s only potash mine, operated by Cleveland Potash (Saltburn by the Sea, U.K.) at Boulby. Cleveland Potash is a subsidiary of Israel Chemicals (Tel Aviv). York Potash...
