World News and Views :: Top of the News Evonik's Nylon-12 Precursor Plant Due Online at Year-End; Evonik and Arkema Offer Substitutes (update)10:42 AM MDT | April 26, 2012 | Natasha Alperowicz and Vincent Valk Evonik Industries, three weeks after an explosion and fire at its cyclodecatriene (CDT) plant at Marl, Germany, which supplied the bulk of global volumes of CDT, a nylon-12 precursor, is offering a number of substitutes for nylon-12 in small quantities. The disruption to output of CDT has caused shortages of nylon-12, affecting the automotive sector in particular. Evonik now expects the CDT plant to be back online in the fourth quarter of this year.
