World News and Views :: Top of the News European PE price hikes could be limited by weak demand1:04 PM MDT | March 19, 2013 | Francinia Protti-Alvarez Increases in polyethylene (PE) prices are expected to take place in Europe during March on the back of higher ethylene prices, but weak downstream converter and consumer demand are likely to limit the magnitude of the increases. Support for higher prices is coming from limited ethylene supply as a result of planned steam cracker turnarounds from mid-March until mid-May, and PE fundamentals could change by the end of the second quarter as the ethylene capacity returns, a recent IHS Chemical report says.
