World News and Views :: Top of the News Environmental Groups Sue CPChem9:48 AM MDT | August 20, 2009 | Nancy Seewald The Sierra Club (Washington) and Environment Texas (Austin) filed a lawsuit yesterday on behalf of local residents against Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem), alleging the company repeatedly violated the Clean Air Act at its Baytown, TX chemical plant. The suit alleges that since 2003 CPChem released more than a million lbs of excess air pollutants including benzene, carbon monoxide, and 1,3-butadiene, as a result of equipment breakdowns, malfunctions, and other incidents.
