Electronic Chemicals: Physicists Apply Electrical Field to Enhance Semiconducting Properties of Nanotubes

Physicists at the University of Gothenburg (Gothenburg, Sweden) say they have developed a method to better control the form of nanotubes during production by using electrical fields. The technique could enable carbon nanotubes, a semiconducting material, to replace silicon in electronic applications, the researchers say. “Carbon nanotubes grow randomly and it is not possible to control either their position or direction.
