World News and Views :: Top of the News Earthquake May Cause Shortage of BT Resin, a Key Electronic Material12:02 PM MDT | March 21, 2011 | Ian Young Electronic component manufacturers are increasingly concerned about a possible shortage of bismaleimide triazine resin (BT resin), a key material used to make smartphones and tablet personal computers (PC), resulting from the Japanese earthquake and tsunami. Japan accounts for an estimated 90% of worldwide production of BT resin and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical (MGC) alone accounts for 50%, according to market estimates.
