EU fines six pharma firms for curbing entry of cheaper generic drugs

The European Commission announced on Wednesday that it has imposed fines totaling €427.7 million ($582.8 million) on the French pharmaceutical company Servier and five producers of generic drugs—Niche/Unichem; Matrix, now part of Mylan; Teva; Krka; and Lupin—for concluding a series of deals to protect Servier's best-selling blood pressure medicine, perindopril, from price competition by generics in the European Union.
