EU Rolls Out Plans to Strengthen Plant Safety Legislation

The European Commission has issued draft legislation to strengthen the rules on the control of major accidents involving hazardous chemicals. Proposed changes to the so-called Seveso II Directive include clarifications to the law and updates for a series of provisions including the introduction of stricter inspection standards and improvements to the quality of information available to the public in the event of an accident.   The new Directive, with the backing of the European member states and the European Parliament, should be introduced from June 1...
