EU Consumer Group Campaigns for a Ban on Six Food Chemicals

European consumer rights group BEUC (Brussels) along with 41 public interest groups from across the European Union (EU) is calling on the European Commission to ban five food colorants and one food stabilizer on the grounds that the substances cause hyperactivity in some children. The six substances that BEUC wants banned are E102 tartrazine, E104 quinoline yellow, E110 sunset yellow, E122 carmoisine, E124 ponceau 4R, and E129 allura red.
