EU Chemicals Production Contracts for Second Consecutive Quarter

EU chemicals production contracted 2% in first quarter 2012 compared with the same period in 2011, according to the latest Cefic Chemicals Trends Report. Monthly data for March 2012 show a 1.8% drop compared with March 2011.  March 2012 data also show that the EU chemicals production level remains 4.4% below the peak in 2007. Prices for chemicals in the EU climbed further on a year-on-year basis in March, up 4.1% during the month against the comparable month in 2011.
