EU Approves German Regional Aid to Wacker

The European Commission has authorized €97.5 million in regional investment aid that the German authorities intend to grant to Wacker Chemie for the production of solar-grade polysilicon at Nünchritz, Germany. The subsidy will help meet the €800-million cost of a previously announced project to build a solar-grade polysilicon plant at Nünchritz. Nünchritz is near Dresden in eastern Germany, an area eligible for regional aid under European Union (EU) law because of "an abnormally low standard of living and high unemployment," the...
