World News and Views :: Top of the News Dow to Complete Closure of Two VCM Units This Year11:22 AM MST | February 7, 2011 | Lindsey Bewley Dow Chemical says it will close two vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) production lines this year. Dow will shut down a production unit at its Freeport, TX VCM facility in first quarter of 2011. A second VCM unit at the company’s Plaquemine, LA complex will cease operations in the third quarter, Dow says. “This is a continuation of the decisive actions taken by Dow to right-size our core chemicals manufacturing footprint and shift our basic feedstocks toward performance derivative businesses,” says Carlo Guarino, global business director at Dow.
