World News and Views :: Top of the News Dow Invests in Methane Technology Research1:04 PM MST | January 24, 2008 | CW Editorial Staff Dow Chemical says it has selected Cardiff University (Cardiff, UK) and Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) to develop technologies to produce chemical intermediates from methane, which is considered an underutilized feedstock. The universities will receive grants from Dow totaling more than $6.4 million over the next three years. Methane is an attractive raw material because of its abundance, but it is not widely used as a chemical feedstock because it is extremely difficult to convert into anything other than carbon dioxide.
