DSM Reports Lower Profits and Sales in the Fourth Quarter

DSM says its fourth-quarter 2008 Ebitda was down 20%, to €241 million ($309.8 million) on sales 6% lower at €2.09 billion. Most of DSM's material science businesses were severely impacted by a sharp drop in demand in the fourth quarter, says Feike Sijbesma, chairman of DSM. "We have implemented actions to prioritize the generation of cash and have swiftly taken the necessary steps to reduce costs in the affected businesses," he says.
