DSM Introduces 2nd Generation Biofuels Technology

DSM says it is starting to market a highly efficient process for generating biofuels from cellulosic materials including wood chips and agricultural residues. The technology features a pre-treatment phase, an enzymatic step to convert woody material to C5 and C6 sugars, and a yeast fermentation step for converting C5 and C6 sugars into bioethanol.   The first process step features a high temperature pre-treatment of biomass.
