Citizens Sue Shell’s Deer Park Site

Two environmental groups have filed a lawsuit on behalf of local residents against Shell’s Deer Park, TX refining and petrochemical complex, alleging Shell “has repeatedly violated the Clean Air Act, resulting in the release of millions of pounds of excess air pollutants over the past five years, including toxic chemicals such as benzene and 1,3-butadiene.” The Sierra Club (Washington) and Environment Texas (Austin) say the state failed to limit the facilities’ so-called accidental releases.
