World News and Views :: Top of the News Chemicals Sector Rail Traffic Rises 10.2%4:41 PM MST | December 29, 2011 | Vincent Valk Chemicals sector rail traffic in North America rose 10.2% year-on-year for the week ended December 24, to 40,782 cars, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR; Washington). U.S. traffic was up 14% to 29,094 cars. Canadian traffic fell 0.9%, to 10,522 cars, while Mexican traffic rose 34.6%, to 1,166 cars. Traffic rose from the prior week’s totals, though it fell in Canada. Overall, North American freight rail traffic rose 12.4% year-on-year, to 379,022 cars, AAR says.
