Cabot to Sell Tantalum Business for $400 Million

Cabot has agreed to sell its Supermetals, primarily a maker of tantalum and alloys, to Global Advanced Metals (GAM; Perth, Australia), a leading supplier of tantalum ore, for $400 million. Cabot’s Supermetals business, primarily a maker of tantalum and alloys for electronics, aerospace, and chemical applications, posted 2010 sales of $177 million and operating profit before tax of $35 million. The deal is expected to close by the end of the year....
