World News and Views :: Top of the News Braskem Temporarily Shuts Down Caprolactam Plant in Brazil9:23 AM MDT | May 15, 2009 | Deepti Ramesh Braskem (São Paulo) says it has decided to suspend the production of caprolactam, and temporarily deactivate the product’s manufacturing unit located at Camaçari, Brazil due to poor profitability. Most of the caprolactam produced by Braskem was meant for the international market, which has lost liquidity since mid 2008 as a result of the global economic crisis and the credit shortage. Braskem says it therefore had to drastically reduce the operating rate of the plant, which reduced profit margins and made it currently unfeasible to continue...
